Writing retreats in Italy for authors, poets, and facilitators
A room to write in, a table to talk at. We handle both.
What we handle
For writing retreats we look for distraction-poor, light-rich spaces, monastery cloisters, stone farmhouses, seaside studios, and pair them with meals that can hold silence when silence is the point. The aim is simple: more pages, fewer moving parts.
The venue
Quiet. Honestly quiet. Private rooms with desks. A central space that works for workshop, reading, or critique.
The programme
Long unscheduled writing mornings, structured afternoons for craft, evenings for reading or talk. We build the rhythm with you.
On the ground
Printing, late-night meal requests, airport transfers at odd hours, supplier issues. Handled on the ground so your writers stay in.
A typical writing retreat day
A template only. Every retreat we plan is built around your programme, not ours.
- Solo writing morning (3+ unstructured hours)
- Lunch, no agenda
- Afternoon workshop or feedback session
- Free hour. Walk, nap, read
- Pre-dinner reading or drafting
- Dinner, shared table
- Optional evening reading or open-mic
Regions that suit writing retreats
Any region can host a retreat, but some suit this programme better. A few we return to:
Tuscany
Silent mornings in hillside villas, long afternoons at the desk, and walking hours in between.
Umbria
Monastery calm, few distractions, and the kind of landscape that slows prose down.
Piedmont
Langhe farmhouses, cellar dinners, and enough quiet to protect a 1,500-word morning.
Lake Como
Lake-facing rooms with writing desks and long, uninterrupted thinking walks.
