Sunset over rolling Umbrian hills and cypress trees

Retreats in Umbria

Tuscany’s quieter, greener neighbour, and for many retreats, the better fit.

Umbria gets called “the green heart of Italy” because it is. Hillside towns, forested valleys, fewer tourists, slower pace. For retreats that need inward space, writing, contemplation, deep coaching, Umbria often outperforms its louder neighbour at a better rate.

Why Umbria works for retreats

  • Genuinely quiet. Low tourist traffic even in summer
  • Hilltop towns (Spello, Todi, Montefalco) that invite wandering
  • Strong monastery and historic-venue inventory
  • Excellent food without the Tuscan markup
  • Central, 1.5–2 hours from Rome
